Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator DraftKings has agreed a deal with Resorts Atlantic City in New Jersey to offer sports betting in the US state.

Earlier this year, DraftKings revealed that it had spoken with a number of land-based casinos in New Jersey in regards to sports betting.

New Jersey does not currently allow legal wagering on sports, but the state is in the process of putting together legislation to regulate such activities in the wake of last month’s Supreme Court ruling on the matter.

Speaking to the Associated Press, DraftKings said it will offer “web-based and mobile operations” for sports gambling in New Jersey.

Jason Robins, chief executive of DraftKings, added: “We are excited to work with Resorts Hotel Casino to bring our new DraftKings sportsbook to New Jersey.

“As a tech savvy and a long-term growth oriented organisation, Resorts Hotel Casino aligns perfectly with our customer-focused, innovation culture.”

The move would mark DraftKings’ first foray into the sports betting market, having previously only offered DFS contests.

However, Legal Sports Report said DraftKings has not yet officially announced if it has been licensed as a gaming entity in New Jersey.

If DraftKings were to obtain a gaming licence, which it already holds in the UK, it would be a first in the US.

New York Giants great Harry Carson placed the inaugural bet at the new NJ sports betting lounge. His choice bet? The New YorkYankees to win the World Series in 2019.

The new sportsbook is the third permanent location to open in Atlantic City. Ocean Resort Casino and Golden Nugget both have their permanent books open.

The new lounge is a 5,000-square-foot venue with a sleek, modern design. The sportsbook’s luxurious vibe hopes to appeal to every level of clientele.

Resorts AC President and CEO Mark Giannantonio, in an interview on DraftKings’ Twitter, was overflowing with excitement about the new facility.

“It’s just another major milestone for us at Resorts,” Giannantonio said. “I have to tell you, it’s by far the nicest book in America.”

A look inside DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts

Visitors to the DraftKings Sportsbook will find a host of excellent amenities. The facility looks like a cross between a swanky sports bar and the New York Stock Exchange.

The first thing that patrons will notice is the coverage of video screens. The sportsbook has 1,000 square feet of ultrahigh-definition video walls. There is even a video ticker feed that displays scores and results like stock quotations.

Once customers decide on a bet, they have both full-service and self-service options to assist them. There are five full-service betting windows and 12 self-service kiosks on the premises.

However, one of the main draws of any sportsbook is its level of comfort. Thankfully, DraftKings has made a very comfortable space, with 135 stadium seats to view matches and events. A VIP area includes couches and tables.

The full-service bar even does tableside food service. According to Giannantonio, the food service even includes sushi, which may be a first in sports betting.

The bottom line is that DraftKings has created a spacious and luxurious venue for sports betting enthusiasts of all stripes. Both DraftKings and Resorts are hoping that the new book will be the biggest draw on the Boardwalk.

It’s already been a busy time for DraftKings

For most gaming operators, the debut of a retail sportsbook would be enough excitement to last for a month. DraftKings does not adhere to that concept.

Instead, the launch at Resorts AC is the company’s second retail opening in the past five days. On Nov. 16, the company debuted its first retail location at the Scarlet Pearl Casino in Mississippi.

The only caveat about the Mississippi location is that its retail operation is the limit of the company’s reach. Online sports betting is not permitted in the Magnolia State unless patrons are on the premises of the host casino.

On the other hand, DraftKings might have preferred to launch an online sportsbook concurrently.

Its dominance over the New Jersey market in that area is overwhelming, with its October revenues exceeding all other Atlantic City casinos combined.
